\We pride ourselves at being at the forefront of surgical techniques and technology, so our patients know they are receiving the most up to date and effective form of care from our team.
A/Prof Michael Talbot (our leading surgeon) is a pioneer of complex bariatric surgery (weight loss surgery) here in Australia, as well as being one of very few clinicians that are experienced in newly introduced endoscopic therapies. And now it’s time to introduce the robots, well, robotic surgery.

Robotic Surgery in Action
Dr Talbot performed Australasia’s first robotic bariatric surgical procedure here in Sydney. What is robotic surgery though?
Robotic surgery is a new surgical approach that is being adopted worldwide as a result of it’s benefits to both the patient and the surgeon performing the operation. Essentially, robotic surgery is a more modern form of keyhole surgery, and it is likely that robotic surgery will replace keyhole over the next decade or so.
So let’s talk about benefits; especially in the field of bariatric surgery, robotic surgery allows access into cramped areas of the abdomen. As well as improved access it can actually improve the surgeon’s dexterity, movement precision, tremor and fatigue. From a patient’s perspective having robotic surgery can reduce the number of incisions required and as a result of the multiple benefits to the surgeon, the surgery has an increased chance of being successful.
If you are one of our patients awaiting surgery and you are interested in robotic surgery as part of your treatment then contact our team today to discuss your options.
