We hold support group meetings for all of our weight loss patients every three months, which we find is invaluable for patients to attend who are looking to achieve long-term, sustainable weight loss following their surgery. Each support group covers a different topic which is related specifically to how to manage and maintain weight loss following surgery.

Colleen M. Cook; The Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients
Our latest support group topic was created around a leading book by Colleen M. Cook; The Success Habits of
Weight Loss Surgery Patients. This book is recognised in the bariatric community as an educational and motivational program to follow, and has been proven to be effective in managing weight loss for bariatric patients. We’ve written a blog for you that summarises the principles in this book, click here to read the blog online.
Twelve patients attended our support group meeting last week; we surveyed ten of these patients afterwards and 100% found the topic helpful, timely and interesting. 100% of our patients who completed the survey also agreed that the group was well organised, which we were pleased with as we appreciate that taking time out on an evening is a big deal as we all have busy lives and want that time to be used effectively.
Aside from finding the topic interesting and informative, one of the main things our patients came away with from the meeting was the support from other patients. Having open discussions allows our patients to learn from each other’s experience and journeys. We find that this is a great motivator, especially for our newer patients who have recently undergone surgery. So even if you have done your homework on the different topics we cover, you can still get a lot from meeting with others like yourself who can help keep you motivated to stay on your path of success.
We cover different topics in each support group to ensure that our content is varied and useful; one of our patients suggested that in the next support group they would like to know more about fitness and exercise. Lucky for that patient we have already organised our next group session personal trainer Nathan Meola (from ONE Personal Training Solutions) to come in to chat to our patients, not only about fitness and exercise, but also about his own journey, as he too has undergone weight loss surgery (gastric banding) to achieve his weight loss.
Our next support group meeting is on Thursday the 26th of May at 7pm; if you would like to attend please give us a call on (02) 9553 1120 to book your spot.
