Introducing Our Support Team at Upper GI Surgery
The Upper GI Surgery specialist practice has been established over 12 years, with our Sydney base located in Kogarah, and other clinics in Wollongong, Orange and the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. During this time as our practice has grown we have built a team of experienced and motivated individuals that work together to provide the best possible care for our patients.
Our surgery concentrates on upper gastrointestinal surgery, with a focus on bariatric surgery (weight loss surgery) for obese and morbidly obese patients. Associate Professor Michael Talbot is our lead surgeon, supported by surgeon Dr Gary Yee. Our team of expert support staff are trained and focused towards the pre and post operative care of our patients. Here’s a breakdown of our team and how they help our patients during their treatment with us.
Nutritionist
As our practice has a high volume of weight loss surgery patients (one of the highest in the state) it is imperative we provide the best possible nutritional advice and support both before and after surgery to ensure the best possible outcome. Our nutritionist, Tania Chaanine, provides guidance for our weight loss surgery patients with regard to their diet following surgery, as well as advice on how to maintain a healthy weight following initial weight loss. Tania often contributes to our blogs with dietary advice/guidelines and making healthier lifestyle choices that promote weight loss and weight maintenance.
Psychologist
We find it invaluable to have a member of our team, psychologist Fiona Tzouramanis, who offers specialised counselling and guidance to patients to help them to achieve their weight loss goals and overcome any obstacles. Fiona has the expertise to assist patients maintain lifestyle changes that improve their health, wellbeing and relationships.
Nurses
With such a diverse range of patients being treated by our surgery, it is important that we have experienced nurses to be able to deal with patients’ requirements in a timely and efficient manner. Our trained practice nurses cover a variety of day to day duties here at the surgery, whether it be coordinating your hospital stay, supporting your recovery, facilitating your long-term follow-up; or carrying out oesophageal studies. It is this specialised level of care that ensures our patients have a positive experience with us from their first contact.
Administration
Aside from our medical team here at Upper GI Surgery, we also have dedicated support staff to ensure our surgery runs efficiently and effectively, with full time highly experienced reception and administration staff.
