Weight loss surgery is designed in general to restrict the amount of food that a patient is able to consume following surgery. However as we have covered in one of our previous blogs (Making the most of a smaller stomach after surgery), just because the volumes you can consume are restricted temporarily, it doesn’t necessarily mean that your new reduced stomach will stay this way.

bariatric-surgery_1To give our patients the best possible chance following surgery to lose weight and maintain their weight loss long term, we choose to use banding as part of our procedures. For example we will not just perform a gastric bypass but a banded gastric bypass.

Why do we recommend banded gastric bypass surgery for patients?

The main reason why is that the addition of the band (as well as the reduced stomach) will help to:

  1. Reduce the volume that can be consumed.
  2. Help to prevent stretching over time.

We are confident that with the additional banding our patients have the best possible chance of losing weight and maintaining this weight loss long term. Gastric bypass surgery alone is the “gold standard” for weight loss surgery and the addition of banding only serves to assist in its success.
